Tanvi Nagpal
Senior Fellow
Tanvi Nagpal is a Senior Fellow at the Foreign Policy Institute. She was a Practitioner in Residence at SAIS from 2010 – 2021, and served as the Director of the International Development Program from 2019-2021. As an active scholar practitioner, Tanvi’s research portfolio focuses on sustainable and equitable water, sanitation and solid waste service delivery; supporting communities and local governments to manage environmental resources; and generating financial support for pro-poor urban policies and programs. Prior to joining SAIS, Tanvi was the Director of Global Water Challenge where she oversaw an innovative portfolio of water and sanitation investments. For a decade, she managed community-based environmental investments and policy research focused on East Asia at the World Bank. Tanvi currently serves on the Steering Committee of the Alliance for a Healthier World, JHU. She is a non-resident scholar at the Urban Institute, and an Advisor at Athena Infonomics. Dr. Nagpal has a PhD in Political Science from Brown University and a BA in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, New Delhi.
