Mark White is an Associate Practitioner in Residence in International Economics at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a Senior Fellow at the SAIS Foreign Policy Institute. His expertise is focused on quantitative risk analysis and risk modeling. At the Foreign Policy Institute, he leads the technical effort to develop a Diplomatic Capacity Index that will shed light on the ability of countries to engage in effective diplomacy. He has been teaching at SAIS since 2009.

Prior to joining SAIS, White received his Master of Arts in Mathematics from Boston University (1979). He worked as an Associate Actuary at the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company from 1979 to 1985. He became a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 1982 and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries in 1983. From 1985 to 2008, he served as a Senior Consulting Actuary at Watson Wyatt Worldwide where he consulted with large U.S. and international employers on health and welfare employee benefit plans.

White is a past President of the Actuarial Club of Washington, D.C. He is a two-time recipient of the Max M. Fisher Prize for Excellence in Teaching, selected by the students of SAIS.
