Brent Kesler

Program Coordinator

Brent Kesler is currently the Program Coordinator for the SAIS Foreign Policy Institute.

Kesler comes to SAIS after working for nine years in the transportation engineering industry. He worked closely with the president and founder of Tuhin Basu & Associates, Inc., to administer safety inspection projects in the greater capital area at all project stages. He developed proposals in response to RFPs, formulated project budgets, tracked spending, and monitored contract compliance. Additionally, Kesler helped manage overall business operations, keeping company certifications up to date, managing annual overhead audits, and helping employees navigate visa requirements. Kesler served as a point of contact with all business partners, including departments of transportation, prime contractors, and subcontractors.

Kesler builds his administrative experience on his early career in academia. After graduating from college, he started his career at the Institute for Information Infrastructure Protection (I3P), where he got his first experience in project management, helping with federally funded cybersecurity research. After a brief pause for his master's degree, he continued his career at the Naval Postgraduate School, working as the managing editor of Strategic Insights, a quarterly journal published by the Center on Contemporary Conflict (CCC). Working with the editor-in-chief, Kesler helped plan each issue, solicit and review submissions from subject matter experts, and prepare each issue for publication. Kesler also promoted the CCC's research and events through social media, bringing it to the attention of a wider audience.

Kesler graduated from Dartmouth College in 2003 with a degree in computer science. Between 2003 and 2006 he wrote Security in the News, a daily report covering malicious hacking, malware, cyber security best practices, and homeland security. In 2010, Kesler graduated from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, building on his cyber security background with a master's degree in international security.
